| Opening of Mitrovica Rock
School
September 2009
Originally scheduled for February, the partners have postponed the official opening of the Mitrovica Rock School to September 2009 to coincide with the start of the new school year. The school’s staff of eight teachers/coordinators will work in close cooperation with CBM and MwB to organize events on both sides of the city. All rock school bands will perform, and guests will be invited to attend concerts and receptions hosted by the Rock School branches in North and South Mitrovica.
Long-term development
Together with MwB and Rock School’s staff, the Fontys Rock Academy has developed a three-year program for the long-term didactic development of the Mitrovica Rock School. The long-term plan is based on the lessons learned during the – highly successful! – pilot year.
During the three-year project period, three consecutive Rock Academy student teams will provide expertise and coaching to the Rock School’s staff. CBM and MwB will continuously assess the possibility of having one, inter-ethnic Rock School, and will move to incorporate the two branches into one permanent Rock School as soon as circumstances allow. Until then, the two locations will work together where possible, via internet and video conferencing. The coaches working at the two branches will meet regularly to discuss their didactic approach. The CBM project manager will work closely with the coaches to ensure that the two branches share the same image, policies and didactic content.

Activities outside Kosovo
As long as Mitrovica musicians are divided by borders in their
own city, the Mitrovica Rock School will organize regular activities
without borders in other locations, like the Summer School and
the Teacher Training Week.
The aim of these activities is twofold.
They offer the band coaches and students intensive coaching
and musical training, in a dynamic environment with new people
and new experiences. And they will help to create a strong base
of young musicians who share the Rock School’s mission
and can take a leading role in restoring Mitrovica’s tradition
as a rock music capital.
